Made With Flower began with a wedding. My own. I'd spent weeks Pinterest-searching and I knew wanted a tall, showstopping, Instagram-worthy wedding cake. But I didn't want to waste food or money and I was only having a small wedding - I didn't need that much cake!

Like many couples, I turned to a ‘dummy tier’ -a polystyrene cake base which gets iced and stacked, just like a standard cake. (It's an industry trick that many cake professionals use to create height and impact, when you don't need a real cake layer.)

So, I got my 5-tier dream and it looked incredible. We got that Instagram-moment cutting the cake, plated up something more budget-friendly and you know what? No one knew the difference.

But afterwards, I was left asking:what now?This so-called cake was basically just a block of plastic. Polystyrene is non-recyclable, non-biodegradable and destined to sit in landfill for hundreds of years. (In my case, it sat in my parents’ garage for 3 years - sorry guys.)

I couldn’t believe there wasn’t a better option. So, I created one.
